1:12, Limited Edition It made motoring history and defined a legend that upholds the fascination of high-revving, open-topped driving to this day. It was the BMW 328, in a special edition known as the, "Superleggera", and its maiden race appearance was in the Le Mans 24 Hours. BMW had commissioned the bodywork from Touring of Milan for this spectacular racing event in June 1939, and the Italians duly produced an ultra-light weight body with a thin aluminum outer skin. In this version, the BMW 328 boasted a top speed of 220 km/h and an output of 135 bhp, tipping the scales at just 780 kg. The upshot was a class victory and a sensational overall fifth place behind far more powerful contestants.
