The BMW 700 having arrived as the happy medium between the two extremes of the exclusive V8 limousines and the affordable Isetta micro-car. The sales success of the small but fast 700 was to point the way forward for BMW. After some years of weak sales figures, the company regained its self-confidence. The new model symbolized the first step towards a genuine mid-range car - the basis of the company's later advancement. Thanks to its lightweight body and extremely good handling, the BMW 700 Coupé also excelled in motor racing.
